Dialogue Beyond Words - In Between Calligraphy and Light

Calligraphy expressed with black ink on pure white washi paper.
In the works presented by Carre MOJI, where the focus is not on the artwork itself but on the viewer's interaction with it, there is a beauty in the "space" that contrasts with the graceful brushstrokes. This space invites the viewer’s imagination to expand, offering a sense of serenity and openness. This exhibition showcases the Tokyo Series, where various landscapes of Tokyo are expressed through calligraphy. As you appreciate the form of the kanji, immerse yourself in the expansive scenery of Tokyo unfolding in your mind.

The gentle light that envelops you comes from “Kotori,” a design lighting piece that draws on the craftsmanship of the Kyō-wagasa (traditional Kyoto umbrellas) by Hiyoshiya. The soft glow of light, emanating from hand-crafted washi paper, creates a serene atmosphere. Why not immerse yourself in this peaceful space and enjoy a quiet dialogue with the calligraphy works on display?

墨の涼香 - Beautiful scenery through Sumi ink

Calligraphy art that stands silently and watches over us - Carre MOJI.
The calligraphers create with the brush as if breathing into the paper, entrusting their spirits to the sumi ink. Carre MOJI, with its exquisite balance of sumi ink colors, letter shapes, and margins, always listens to your heart. You will see a lot of different scenery in your mind as you interact with the sumi ink. We invite you to spend an enriching time, relaxing in the artwork and feeling the imagination freely. In this exhibition, you can see selected artworks including new artworks, the Tokyo series that expresses various famous places in Tokyo with a calligrapher's sensitivity, and a collaboration of Noren Nakamura and Carre MOJI that create a cool ambience.

Tokyo Series - One Hundred Famous Views of Tokyo These are one-of-a-kind calligraphy and sumi-e of Tokyo's representative place names and famous landmarks. The artworks are created by carefully selected calligraphers belonging to Carre MOJI, who have both "beautiful lines with mastery of calligraphy" and "design and sensibility". We hope you enjoy the scenery that unfolds from the calligraphy and sumi-e, which change from time to time as you look at it.

◆Noren Nakamura x Carre MOJI - NOREN sho-art
Nakamura, which proposes a number of curtains that weave together tradition and innovation, has collaborated with Carre MOJI. Noren and calligraphy, which have been a part of Japanese life since ancient times, share a common Japanese spirit. Just as you enjoy the changing scenery that unfolds in your mind when you live with calligraphy, you will come to appreciate the comfort of noren when you live with it. As a new interior design revived in the modern age, you can feel the cool "Japanese breeze".

Carre MOJI will ship works without Frame

Carre MOJI will ship works without Frame

We have a lot of works not framed and can ship them to your address after your works are mounted on hard paper (Urauchi).

When calligraphers have created works on Japanese paper,
works (Japanese Paper) are very thin and soft.
Therefore, we need to mount them on hard paper (Urauchi)
before we do the framing.

Urauchi is a special Japanese technique.

After doing Urauchi, we will roll it up, pack it in a box and ship it by EMS. (EMS charge is included the prices.)
And you can do the framing with your requested design and color in your country.

The list of works are a part of whole works.
If you don’t have these works with your requested, please feel free to contact us.

Kei Shimizu's Virtual exhibition held

Many thanks to the many visitors who viewed
Kei Shimizu's virtual exhibition 「 HAVE A GOOD DAY」
from 28 March to 11 April.

~ Message from Kei Shimizu ~
The Japanese calligraphy is our peace of mind
for having a good day.
It makes us face ourselves and relax, restore our energy.
For that reason,
Japanese people used to live with "calligraphy,"
which is made from letters and words.
And now, we have felt the scare of pandemic in the world.
That’s why I think that we need our life
with Japanese calligraphy.
Let's live with a piece of calligraphy for everyday life.
I pray everybody in the world will be happy.
