About Tax-Free Shopping
Consumption tax
Consumption tax in Japan, known in other countries as VAT, GST or sales tax, is a flat 8% on all items.Please note that the consumption tax rate might increase to 10% in October 2019.
Who can benefit?
- All temporary visitors (less than six months stay in Japan) such as foreign tourists.
- Japanese nationals who live overseas and plan to do so for two years or more may benefit if they are temporarily visiting Japan.
- Everyone who will send a purchased item to an overseas address.
Items that qualify for tax-exemption
To be eligible, your purchase must exceed 10,000 yen (before tax) on items that qualify for tax-exemption, bought at the same store on the same day.
What you need
Method 1 You must have your passport (or a crew member's landing permit) on you (photocopies are not accepted).
Method 2 You must send a purchased item to an overseas address.
Tax-Free Procedure
Method 1
In Japan, displaying your passport at Carré MOJI salon, which offers a tax exemption, will allow you to purchase Carré MOJI items without the 8%
consumption tax.
Step 1. Store staff will make up a tax-exemption form.
Step 2. You must sign this form, paste the second page of the form into your passport, and get it stamped by store staff.
Step 3. Customs will collect this Record of Purchase from your passport when you leave Japan with your item.
Method 2
Sending a purchased item to an overseas address that offers a tax exemption will allow you to purchase Carré MOJI items without the 8% consumption
tax. Simply give us your overseas address. You can make purchases either at our gallery or online shop. Please note that prices in the online shop
include consumption tax. When you purchase an item in the online shop, please contact us by telephone (+81-3-5766-7120) or e-mail. We will send you
a purchase order without consumption tax by e-mail. Shipping costs are in general 15% of item prices.
