At over 90 years old, Shosen Hamada remains an active artist and has trained many disciples. He is a judge for the Mainichi Shodo Association, Japan’s largest calligraphy organization, and serves as a director and judge for the Japan Calligraphy Academy. He also contributes as a judge for the Aki National Calligraphy Exhibition and as a director of the National Calligraphy Education Association.
Recognized with multiple awards, Hamada’s work stands out for its expressive, textured brushstrokes developed through years of practice. His calligraphy also features delicate, transparent fine lines, striking a balance between strength and lightness. His refined artistry continues to redefine calligraphy as a modern art form.
