Began practicing calligraphy at eight and graduated from Meiji University’s Faculty of Letters. Member of major calligraphy institutions like the Mainichi Shodo Association, Kei Shimizu combines deep knowledge of Japanese classical literature with refined brushwork to create lyrical and artistic pieces. In recent years, Shimizu’s work has evolved into a new form of artistic calligraphy, featuring flowing, graceful brushstrokes and beautifully shaded ink tones. Blurring the lines between traditional calligraphy and painting, her creations can be seen at Aman Tokyo, traditional Japanese ryokans, private homes, or corporate branding in Japan.
