【 The meaning of the poem 】
( Poem by Calligrapher Kiyomi Ueno )
Miho no Matsubara is a place of breathtaking beauty where Mount Fuji can be seen across a pine-covered coastline. Designated as one of Japan’s first Places of Scenic Beauty in 1922, it is also famous as the setting for the “Legend of Hagoromo,” which depicts the encounter between a celestial maiden and a local fisherman.

When I visited Miho no Matsubara, a gentle spring breeze was blowing, and I felt a sense of happiness as if a celestial maiden had descended, inspiring me to compose this poem. Katsushika Hokusai also left behind paintings of Miho no Matsubara. The harmony of Mount Fuji, a symbol of Japan, and the celestial maiden creates a scene of simple beauty.

When people see beautiful things, they feel happy.
Though Mount Fuji is not depicted in this work, I can still see it clearly in my mind.
