Solo Exhibition – Issai Tanaka
“Monochrome Resonance”
Dancing calligraphic lines,
The beauty of contrasting white space
A monochrome world woven from rare sensibility and pure love for calligraphy
Within it, infinite landscapes emerge
This exhibition, themed around reverence for nature, invites you to experience the journey of calligrapher Issai Tanaka, who continues to challenge the world of Japanese calligraphy with his exceptional skill. From classical works containing poetry that reflect years of dedication to traditional Japanese calligraphy, to three series he’s focused on particularly in recent years: the “Water Series,” which transforms the image of water into language using brushes with fewer than ten bristles; the “Initiation Series,” which explores the essence of characters based on ancient scripts; and the “Pixel Series,” which expresses the infinite potential of sumi-ink through the smallest unit—the pixel—revealed by digitally converting actual calligraphy works and by digitally transforming his works and intentionally lowering their resolution. Please enjoy these captivating works.
